Sugden Masterclass ANV-50 Integrated Amplifier
A distinctive British integrated amplifier combining Sugden’s Pure Class A heritage with an advanced, load-stable output stage. Created to celebrate Sugden Audio’s fiftieth anniversary, the Masterclass ANV-50 delivers 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 100 watts per channel into 4 ohms, giving it the control required to partner a broad range of high-quality loudspeakers.
Overview
The Sugden Masterclass ANV-50 was developed as a modern interpretation of the engineering philosophy established by the original A21 in 1967. Its two-stage amplification architecture combines a Pure Class A input amplifier with an advanced final output stage using Sugden Error Correction.
The preamplifier and power-amplifier sections are fully DC coupled, avoiding capacitors in the signal path. Sugden also employs a high-speed 1 MHz switching power supply, designed to respond immediately to the demands of the amplifier circuit while improving efficiency and reducing unnecessary heat.
Key Benefits
- Natural and open presentation: a minimalist line-drive preamplifier uses a carefully selected, low component count signal path.
- Confident loudspeaker control: output doubles from 50W into 8Ω to 100W into 4Ω with both channels operating.
- Stable performance into changing loads: Sugden Error Correction monitors and corrects errors within the final output stage.
- Practical system integration: five line-level inputs, variable pre-output and fixed tape output support both simple and expandable systems.
- Efficient operation: power consumption falls to approximately 20W when no input signal is present.

Ideal For
The ANV-50 is intended for listeners seeking Sugden’s fluid, natural musical character with greater power and loudspeaker flexibility than the company’s lower-powered A21 models. It is particularly relevant for premium stereo systems using medium-sensitivity standmount or floorstanding loudspeakers, and for customers who value analogue simplicity, long-term serviceability and understated British design.

Why We Selected This Product
At ExclusivIT, we appreciate amplifiers that combine a clear engineering identity with genuine everyday usability. The ANV-50 retains the natural flow and tonal integrity associated with Sugden while providing substantially more drive than the classic lower-powered models.
Its appeal lies not in an extensive feature list, but in the quality of its analogue architecture, its stable behaviour with real loudspeaker loads and its ability to form the long-term foundation of a carefully chosen stereo system. For listeners who want musical refinement without sacrificing control or flexibility, the ANV-50 deserves serious consideration.
