Sugden Masterclass IA-4 Pure Class A Integrated Amplifier

The Sugden Masterclass IA-4 is the flagship integrated amplifier in the Masterclass range, combining pure Class A amplification with a substantial power supply, refined analogue control and a built-in MM phono stage. Designed for listeners who value tonal richness, spatial depth and long-term musical engagement, it offers a focused alternative to feature-heavy amplifiers.

Overview

The IA-4 builds on Sugden’s long experience with pure Class A amplification. Its output stage develops 33 watts per channel into 8 ohms, supported by a larger power supply and upgraded smoothing and output capacitors compared with the A21 series.

A bespoke preamplifier section, gold-plated circuit boards, relay input switching and a precision selector contribute to a clean, carefully controlled signal path. The amplifier is handcrafted in Yorkshire by a single skilled technician.

Key Benefits

• Natural musical presentation: pure Class A operation is designed to preserve low-level detail, tonal texture and dynamic flow.
• Integrated vinyl support: the built-in MM phono stage allows direct connection of a compatible turntable.
• Flexible analogue connectivity: line-level, tape, phono and balanced inputs accommodate a well-developed stereo system.
• System expansion: variable pre-out and fixed output connections support additional amplification or recording equipment.
• Long-term ownership: substantial construction and hand assembly reflect Sugden’s emphasis on durability and serviceability.

Ideal For

The Sugden Masterclass IA-4 is intended for serious two-channel systems built around high-quality analogue and digital sources. It is particularly relevant for listeners who prefer musical coherence and tonal refinement over extensive digital processing or network features.

Its 33-watt Class A output should be matched thoughtfully with loudspeakers of suitable sensitivity and impedance, especially where larger rooms or very high playback levels are involved.

Why We Selected This Product

At ExclusivIT, we value amplifiers with a clear purpose and a coherent engineering philosophy. The IA-4 does not attempt to be a streamer, DAC or home cinema hub. Instead, it concentrates on high-quality analogue amplification, careful construction and a direct connection to the music.

Its combination of pure Class A operation, useful analogue connectivity and built-in MM phono support makes it a compelling foundation for a refined stereo system. For customers who appreciate Sugden’s understated design and natural presentation, the IA-4 deserves serious consideration.
