REL Planar PL-1 Ultra-Slim Active Subwoofer

The REL Planar PL-1 brings genuine REL low-frequency performance to rooms where a conventional subwoofer is difficult to accommodate. Its ultra-slim cabinet can be mounted on a wall or positioned close to it, using boundary coupling to produce controlled, articulate bass while preserving valuable floor space.

Overview

Designed for smaller and medium-sized rooms, the Planar PL-1 combines two front-firing 6.5-inch FibreAlloy active drivers with a rear-firing 10-inch passive radiator. The passive radiator works in close relationship with the wall behind the cabinet, reinforcing low-frequency output from an enclosure measuring only 144 mm deep.

The PL-1 is equally relevant to stereo systems, compact home cinemas and installations where conventional subwoofer placement would be visually or practically intrusive. Built-in AirShip Direct wireless technology further simplifies installation by reducing the need for long visible signal cables.

Key Benefits

• Space-efficient installation: ultra-slim construction supports near-wall or direct wall-mounted placement.
• Flexible system use: suitable for music, home cinema and specialised applications such as centre-channel bass reinforcement.
• Integrated wireless connectivity: AirShip Direct is included and factory-paired for straightforward setup.
• Natural system integration: REL High-Level connectivity allows the subwoofer to receive the same signal as the main loudspeakers.
• Controlled wall interaction: REL’s VIMAR mounting system helps reduce unwanted vibration transfer into the wall.

Why We Selected This Product

At ExclusivIT, we appreciate products that solve a genuine installation challenge without reducing performance to a secondary consideration. The Planar PL-1 offers a thoughtful alternative to the conventional cube-shaped subwoofer, making serious low-frequency reproduction possible in spaces where cabinet depth and visual integration matter.

Its flexible placement, built-in wireless connection and full REL input architecture make it particularly compelling for modern living rooms and compact cinema systems. For customers who have previously avoided adding a subwoofer because of space or aesthetics, the PL-1 deserves close consideration.
