Klipsch RP-1600SW – 16" High Excursion Subwoofer
Monumental low-end impact for reference home cinema. The Klipsch RP-1600SW 16" High Excursion Subwoofer is the flagship model of the Reference Premiere range, combining a huge Cerametallic driver, 800 W RMS / 1600 W peak Class D amplification and a front-firing Aerofoil slot port. It delivers room-shaking bass with precision, speed and control for the most demanding movie and music systems.
- 16" ultra long-throw Cerametallic woofer for colossal, low-distortion bass
- 800 W RMS / 1600 W peak Class D amplifier with analog preamp stage
- Frequency response down to 14.5 Hz (±3 dB) for true infrasonic extension
- Front-firing Aerofoil slot port for powerful, tight and placement-friendly bass
- Dual RCA/LFE inputs and WA-2 wireless port for easy integration
Product Overview
The Klipsch RP-1600SW is engineered as a no-compromise bass foundation for high-performance home cinemas and large listening rooms. Its 16" ultra long-throw Cerametallic cone is exceptionally rigid and lightweight, allowing huge excursion with minimal breakup and distortion. Driven by an 800 W RMS (1600 W peak) Class D amplifier with an analog preamp stage, it combines enormous output with excellent control and efficiency.
The front-firing Aerofoil slot port is tuned to maximise output while minimising turbulence and chuffing, even at extreme levels. A robust MDF enclosure with scratch-resistant ebony vinyl finish, rounded corners and heavy-duty grille hardware ensures both acoustic stability and a premium look that matches Reference Premiere speakers.
Listening Experience
The RP-1600SW delivers a deep, authoritative and surprisingly agile bass performance. With extension down to 14.5 Hz (±3 dB) and maximum acoustic output around 125.5 dB, it can reproduce the most demanding LFE effects with cinema-grade impact while remaining composed and controlled.
Bass notes are tight, textured and tuneful rather than bloated, so music benefits just as much as movies. Kick drums hit hard, synth lines are solid and stable, and acoustic bass instruments retain pitch definition even at high volumes. In film soundtracks, explosions, engine roar and atmospheric rumbles are rendered with visceral weight and scale, transforming the room into a convincing cinematic environment.
Recommended Room Size
With its huge driver, high-power amplifier and large cabinet volume, the RP-1600SW is ideal for medium to very large rooms:
- Dedicated home theaters and media rooms
- Large open-plan living spaces where smaller subs run out of steam
- Systems where reference-level playback and deep infrasonic extension are priorities
In smaller rooms, it can be run at lower output while still benefitting from effortless headroom and low distortion.
System Integration & Controls
The RP-1600SW is designed to integrate smoothly into a wide range of AV and hi-fi setups:
- Dual RCA / LFE inputs for connection to AV receivers, processors or stereo preamps
- WA-2 wireless port for use with the optional Klipsch WA-2 kit, enabling high-quality wireless subwoofer connection and flexible placement
- Low-pass crossover and variable phase controls so you can fine-tune the sub to your main speakers and room
- 0.5 W standby mode for energy-efficient idle operation
Front-firing configuration and the slot port make placement easier near walls or in corners while maintaining tight, controlled performance when properly set up.
Ideal Applications
- Reference home cinema systems based on Klipsch Reference Premiere or similar high-output speakers
- High-impact gaming setups demanding deep, fast, cinematic bass
- Music-focused systems where full-range reproduction and live-like dynamics are desired
- Installations using one or more subwoofers for smoother bass distribution across multiple seats
